Dr. David M. Gottlieb obtained his Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Maryland in 1971, with an emphasis on employing computers in scientific research. He worked as a Computer Scientist at Goddard Space Flight Center and Motorola's Government Electronics Group until 1986. This led to an entrepreneurial career, first with a small electronic documents software company, and then, since 1997, with Citation Technologies, where he developed the Citation platform for the display of documents via the Internet. He is currently pursuing the creation of new technologies to improve the usability of both documents and data in electronic formats.
Presentation
Documents in the Age of the Internet
'Document' no longer means simply a number of printed pages, somehow bound together. Today, the Internet has completely transformed the process of information storage and exchange. Simultaneously, the amount of information available to each of us has skyrocketed. To survive the deluge, we are devising new means to develop, maintain, manage, and distribute our information, and this has led to an entirely new understanding of what a 'document' is. This presentation describes how we can use new technologies to create, find, and distribute documents information, with an emphasis on the Internet.
