NEWS AROUND THE INDUSTRY

Security Providers Partner to Standardize the Interface of Network Video Products

BoschBosch Security Systems, Axis Communications and Sony Corporation are working together to develop a standard for the interface of network video products. A worldwide open standard gives you greater flexibility as it enables you to select products from different vendors to create video systems that best meet your needs. Learn more.

WHITE PAPERS

Using the Corporate Network for Video Surveillance
Roughly half the costs of a new surveillance system can be saved by using network cables rather than laying thick bundles of coaxial cable, camera controls and power wires. Video over IP also offers more flexibility for viewing, recording and expanding surveillance systems. The benefits are clear, but concerns over network bandwidth and storing recorded video are common challenges. Click here for strategies you can use to reduce bandwidth consumption and streamline the management of video recording and storage technology.

Reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of Your IP Video System
By educating yourself on various approaches to IP video and their associated costs, you can better challenge integrators to design the most appropriate system for your needs and budget. Reducing maintenance costs and making good use of storage technology will lower the total cost of your system by up to 30% over its lifetime. Learn more.

TECHNICAL TIPS

Estimating Bandwidth for IP Video
Video over IP can consume a lot of bandwidth – one camera may use anywhere from 100 kilobits to two megabits per second. If you run out of network bandwidth, you may have to contend with choppy video or unclear images. Defining the exact amount of bandwidth a system will require is nearly impossible, but a close estimate can be arrived at by running a bandwidth test. Learn more.

Make your DVR Smarter with Intelligent Video Analysis
Many companies have more cameras than staff to watch them. If anything suspicious or out of the ordinary occurs, you have to count on your security personnel to catch it in the video footage. Intelligent Video Analysis (IVA) can help - it allows you to add automatic detection to your CCTV system as a whole or to individual cameras. Click here to learn how to apply IVA to enhance the intelligence of your existing DVRs.

CASE STUDIES

School District Moves Security to Head of the Class
DALLASTOWNStudents in the Dallastown Area School District are learning their actions speak louder than words. The District’s IT department recently upgraded its video surveillance technology from a small system of analog cameras recorded on VCRs to an end-to-end IP video system that provides surveillance of the high school and middle school. IP Video Storage Just Got Easier to Manage and More Cost-Effective
With the introduction of the Video Recording Manager (VRM), Bosch adds system-wide management for its direct-to-RAID array technology for video recording, enabling IP cameras and encoders to stream directly to storage disk. VRM simplifies system installation by creating a virtual pool of storage using all available RAID arrays on the network. This eliminates the need to estimate storage requirements for individual or groups of cameras. With load-balancing, cameras with large storage requirements are automatically allocated more disk space, ensuring the desired retention time is achieved across all cameras. VRM can also help you gain added flexibility and improve your return on assets, as you can add storage to the pool as the video surveillance system grows. Learn more.

New System Offers Seamless Management of Digital Video, Audio and Data over IP
With the Bosch Video Management System (VMS) you can integrate CCTV products into a complete video surveillance solution that’s easy to operate and manage. Designed to fit video installations both large and small, VMS is suited to a wide range of applications, including government locations, banks, airports, railways and university campuses. VMS offers an intuitive user interface to help security operators work more efficiently and respond faster to critical events. The sophisticated event and alarm management and advanced video content analysis capabilities also ensure that security concerns are recognized quickly. Learn more.
