Dave RobinDave Robin
Software Development Manager
Automated Logic Corporation

Dave Robin has been with Automated Logic Corporation for 26 years, where he has held a variety of engineering and management roles. Most recently, he was head of Software Development, overseeing the development of the WebCTRL product line, beginning with its roots as a Skunk Works project in 1998.

In the 80's, his early prototypes of graphical programming methods using an electrical schematic capture package later turned into Automated Logic's highly successful Eikon application programming suite. As a pioneer of peer-to-peer EMCS networking, his early designs had to be deployed using "engineering samples" of the now ubiquitous RS-485 drivers.

Although he had nostalgia for the proprietary protocols that he had designed, in the mid 90's, he and Automated Logic became committed to standardized protocol efforts, becoming active in both the BACnet and LonMark communities. His first BACnet implementation was created while the standard was still in public review, and he has written several stacks since then, both large and small.

He is currently serving the BACnet community as chair of the ASHRAE SSPC 135 (the BACnet committee). Among the wide range of technologies that BACnet encompasses, his recent areas of personal concentration are Network Security, XML, and Web services.

Instrument design, application chemistry and field sales were the main roles for Patrick while at Mettler Toledo’s analytical instrumentation division in Europe; main achievements were in developing new chemical methods for process quality control and being an integral design team member for a line of new automated robotic titration systems and ergonomic portable pH meters.

Hogan then worked as International Marketing Manager for Zellweger Analytics, a leading gas detection manufacturer, where he was responsible for the concept to marketing of a number of infra-red flammable gas detectors that have pioneered the industry for reliable offshore gas detection. After Honeywell acquired Zellweger Analytics in 2005 to form Honeywell Analytics, Hogan emerged as a pivotal figure in the company’s rapid expansion efforts; as Honeywell Analytics’ Vice President of Marketing, he is responsible for the entire product life cycle of a number of portable and fixed gas detection instruments, including the industry’s first wireless product specifically for parking structures.

Hogan also serves in a liaison role with Honeywell’s Automated Control Solutions group to integrate gas detection instrumentation equipment with security, surveillance and other critical automated building systems. He is a strong proponent of intelligent building design and has been at the forefront at the company’s push to bring Honeywell’s CO wireless gas detection and CO2/temperature/humidity sensing equipment to the building industry. At the helm of developing Honeywell’s on-demand ventilation product synergies and integration with building communication protocols, Hogan is helping to define the standards and values of a more energy efficient, safer, comfortable building environment for occupants and workers.

Mr. Hogan is an active conference speaker and author on many green building topics, such as the integration of gas detection solutions with digital communications protocols including BACNet, Modbus, FieldBus and LonWorks. Bringing innovative engineering ideas to a sustainable, intelligent building design is a current focus of Hogan’s career.
